Fair enough. There are many of us "geeky" types who look at others who are not "techie" and belittle them for not knowing what WE like to look at. Heck, many techies look at each other and belittle them because they are not into their specific area of technology. I find that absurd -- we each have our own strengths and areas of interest. > If by "techie," you mean someone who makes his living servicing other > people's computers, I agree with you, but that's not me. Sounds like you are a reasonably knowledgably use who knows how to do what you want and need, can often figure things out on your own and even help others, but does not really focus on the technology for the sake of technology. Which is fine. I tend to focus on usability issues, and even then how people would get common work done. One that I talked about some time ago in the tech forum I am reading this in was the simple and fairly common task of getting a web resource you might print (such as a recipe, map, lesson plan, art project, or whatever) and instead of printing it converting it to a PDF to email to someone and to have some notes or annotations on it. This can be done on Windows (and Linux) fairly easily: "print" to PDF, open up in software that does the annotation, and then email the saved output. Not a big deal. I noted macOS has a more streamlined workflow that I like (or really choice of workflows). Years later many in the Linux group still mock me over showing this... even as they show delving into the command line and using arcane commands few "common" users would ever be willing to even try (which is fine... not putting them down for that but noting they are working on the fringes of use, not common use as I am). Anyway, the fact I care about usability in such a way shows I am a "techie" in a way you likely are not. :) >> Where I find people to be absurd, though, is when they get mad at someone for >> not being a "real" user of whatever OS because they also use other OSs. > > That's not me either.
