As we've been discussing, the issue is that the standard doesn't require
a diagnostic.  Many compilers will issue a warning with the right
options.

It would be helpful if you'd follow the existing conventions for posting
followups:
- Don't delete attribution lines.
- Quote text with "> " (most newsreaders do this automatically).
- Use "-- " (the trailing space is significant) to mark your signature.
