AFAIK did (does) the Irish State not have a similar fortified
border. The former GDR border only comes second to that between North-
and South-Korea.

Indeed, Germany has two cities by the name of Frankfurt. One in Hesse
(the city, where most of the bank have their HQ, thus where the money is,
often called "Mainhatten", as the river Main flows there), and the one at
the river Oder, which was from 1948 to 1990 part of the GDR.
