The question is: how "real" has this "real" to be to be "the deal"? For instance, even if a Z80-compatible CPU is used (so that the board could run the original software), is FDC a must? Or are through-hole components? My understanding is that switching to SD and SMD would result in considerable savings to the design. (The costs of designing a new board put aside.) > If you want to hack on the ROM parts, or if you want to add hardware > expansion for example, that isn't so easy with an emulator. Depends on what exactly one wants to achieve, and how good the emulator used is. > Related quote: http://www.quotesea.com/quotes/with/virtual-memory Inapplicable. His point was that you don't try to "fake" a bigger system on a smaller one; you just get the bigger one instead. My argument was, like, the other way around. Seriously speaking, I don't think Seymour Cray, who spent his entire life pushing the limits in a neverending quest for more and more processing power, would spend a bit of his time on a 16-year old board. Not that I can't understand why there's an interest in doing so, but it's not quite the experience one can enlight the others with... -- FSF associate member #7257 np. gptennis.mod
