If you are installing from a linux distribution's repository nothing is
going to look at the policy file, the package manager will simply update
firefox. As far as I remember Slackware has a package manager too. But
maybe firefox isn't included in it.

OpenSUSE has Firefox ESR in the repo. I am using Firefox Beta so I let
firefox update itself when I am ready.
