Alas, the MSP430 Launchpad board that was $4.30 USD for a long time now costs $10 in the US. They had to be taking a loss on each one before, and I wonder if a lot of them ended up being built into products instead of used for evaluation. I was tempted to buy maybe a dozen of them for various purposes, though in practice they would have ended up sitting around. I did get one, which is sitting around. Given that they are no longer the cheapest board out there, the Freescale Freedom boards (several models) seem more attractive because of their greater capabilities (ARM Cortex M0+ or M4F processors). Or getting a little spendier, the Teensy (ATMega), Femtoduino, and other tiny boards can fit into tighter corners.
