maybe nothing to do with cross-posted articles, but neodome's recently
imposed "[spam]" deterrent against mixmaster remailer exits using this
mail2news@neodome.net gateway . . . could it be that cross-posting has
also been singled out as undesirable "spam" behavior, easier to reject
e.g. /^newsgroups:.*, => delete... /^followup-To:.*, => delete message
rather than allow crossposts that are mostly spam/trollbait flapdoodle

the eternal september trollfarm still inundates every active newsgroup
whether crossposted or not, but if all peering nntp servers would stop
accepting cross-posted articles, that would cut down on spam immensely
