Several solve the problem by defining the word to be the smallest addressable unit, making chars 48-bits in the case of some DSPs. There seems to be a general dearth of PR1ME C compiler reference manuals (which wold contain the details). -- Derek M. Jones blog:shape-of-code.coding-guidelines.com [C had issues on any word addressed machine. Some of the hacks people tried on the PDP-10 were pretty ugly, too. -John]
