Microsoft ist ein Gewinn orientiertes Unternehmen. Natürlich wird
versucht, sein Produkt möglichst häufig zu verkaufen. Dazu muss man
entweder die Kunden befähigen es zu benutzen, oder eben andersrum, das
Produkt leicht handhabbar zu machen. Da man nicht jeden Kunden erst zum
Admin ausbilden kann, wird letzteres versucht.

Es werden oft nicht die Treiber aussortiert, sondern irgendwann fallen
die alten Schnittstellen weg, welche auch schon seit Jahren nur noch als
Legacy neben der aktualisierten Schnittstelle mitgeschleppt wurden.
