After rising from jonokuchi to sekitori status with every record either 7-0 or 6-1,Aonishiki has thus far won at least 10 matches in every sekitori basho of his career (two in juryo and the rest in makuuchi). As a maegashira, komosubi, and sekiwake he won sansho every basho.(Onosato also did this but had a 9-6 basho as sekiwake). Now he is to be promoted to ozeki and will no longer be eligible for sansho and the double digit win numbers that he rode across the "great barrier" will at last be informally expected of him (though not necessary to retain his rank,he will need to build on them to yusho/doten level to win the only remaining possible promotion). Getting to this level while never having gone make-koshi is rare enough...I'm not sure it has ever been done always getting 10 or more wins since sekitori basho became 15 matches long. Onosato has not gone make-koshi yet but did have 9-6 basho as sekiwake and his first basho as ozeki, and withdrew injured at the end of this past basho. How long can Aonishiki keep up the streak of 10 or more wins...and will he or Onosato go make-koshi at any time? -=-=- The World Trade Center towers MUST rise again, at least as tall as before...or terror has triumphed.
