David's Dumpling & Noodle

Location -
1900 Hillsborough St.
Raleigh NC 27607
919-239-4536
(In the NCSU neighborhood)

Ambiance -
We were greeted and seated promptly in a spacious and nearly empty full
dining room. (This was at 7:30pm on a Wednesday evening. We had no
reservation.) Chopsticks and sparkling-clean heavy-weight utensils were
wrapped in a black cloth napkin, set on a polished wood table. Seating
was comfortable. Background music volume was low but audible. While
Asian-influenced music might be expected, this was Golden Oldies.
Seating was comfortable and the interior walls were made of used brick
with interesting arches.

Service -
Professional and effective servers. Several check-backs during the
meal. Thank you, Mike!

Fare -
A pleasing selection of Pan-Asian cuisine.

Vegetarians will find many appealing options.

Special Lady made a meal of two small plates:
Stuffed eggplant with shrimp with ginger garlic sauce ($4.50)
Shrimp Rangoon with cream cheese and duck sauce ($4.00)
Tasty and sufficiently filling for a modest appetite.

I ordered Ginger Garlic Eggplant with Pork ($12.95) which comes with
white rice on the side. This stir-fry dish is composed of thin strips
of pork, chunks of Asian eggplant, pieces of colorful sweet peppers and
snow peas in a brown ginger garlic sauce. Nice flavors but the spices
were timid.

Presentation counts, and all items were plated in a manner calculated to
please the eye.

Portion sizes were "just right" and there was nothing to take home. I
asked for "low salt" and the kitchen complied. This stands in contrast
with so many other eateries which use too much salt regardless of the
patron's requests.

Wake County sanitation rating -
98 as of 4/15/16. Commendable.

Website -
http://www.ddandnb.com/
An attractive and easily-navigated web site.
Overall rating -
"B+". The tab came to $23 including tax.

Suggested improvements -
I always like some sort of salad, even with Chinese food. Perhaps
David's could offer a half-portion of their Mixed Baby Green Salad as an
accompaniment or even as a $2 add-on. An Asian cole slaw with
vinaigrette would also be welcome. It would be nice if the menu offered
fried rice as an alternative to white rice.
