I wrote this as a change only to player-facing damage. The hits that players make against monsters remain the same, only the hits against players themselves use these rules. The basic idea is to mimic the state changes from games like Resident Evil within a TTRPG setting while incorporating cinematic plot armor as seen in movies like John Wick or the Fast and Furious franchise. :) It's not everyone's cup of tea, but depending on how much Grit players have and how aggressively they are attacked, it introduces genuine resource constraints that can make the game much scarier to play.
