Let's all get back to the topic at hand, which, from the vitriol in the OP,
I presume is Tyrone voicing his distaste for threads on an Apple ng which
are asking WHY iOS works the way Apple designed iOS to work.

To that end, I ask Tyrone...

Can you explain WHY you don't like threads asking WHY iOS works the way it
does so that we, together, can answer your concerns about thread topics?

Fuck off. THIS is the topic at hand. You just don't like it.

Really Tyrone? Just that you think this shows your paranoia is boundless.
Even Lorenz is more reasonable than you.

Hi badgolferman,

I agree fully with your appraisal above, and commend you for making that
point, but I wish to discuss something VERY IMPORTANT with you if I may.

I see you stayed out of the thread which discussed why only iOS is designed
with so many different yet intertwined authentication tokens, that the end
result of a long-term refusal to authenticate results in a 'bricked' device
(i.e., Authentication Lock that only Apple can solve with proper ID).

That simple thread asked why only Apple does what it does, and only with
iOS (not with macOS); but it became a "circular" discussion simply because
while some agreed that iOS does, indeed, ask for a password even when we
never logged out -- but a few disagreed with that fact.

They disagreed so repeatedly that, to them, it became a "circular
argument", but only because they denied the very existence of fact.

When they could no longer dismiss the facts, they resorted to insults.
Which, I'm sure, is no surprise to anyone who has been on this newsgroup.

However, to my credit, you'll note I never descended to their level.

If you read the threads, I ignored their personal taunts (e.g., Tyrone owns
the vitriol of Jolly Roger and Chris calls me political taunts, even as
I've never been political on any of these threads as I'm no parrot).

My goal for the entire year of "Maria", is to never respond to their taunts
and to always bring the thread back to the factual intelligent level.

It's actually an experiment that I've designed to last at least a year.
My goal is to improve the discussion content of this ng within that time.

That's why, in part, the questions are probing questions of why Apple does
what it does with iOS, especially when no other OS is done that way.

Wish me luck in improving the content of this newsgroup.

I've solved tougher problems in my storied past so I'm confident that this
approach of always not dropping to the level of taunts and staying
technical and asking probing questions of why Apple does what only Apple
does, will improve the intellectual level of this newsgroup.

Note also I never respond to Alan Baker, Snit (Brock McNuggets) and Joerg
Lorenze, which, you might wryly note, if I had wanted to "troll" (as I am
accused of doing), I'd be able to easily troll by responding to them.
--
If you never think how iOS works, you'll never understand how iOS works.
If you never think why iOS works as it does, you'll never understand Apple.

Good luck. That will only happen when people stop being so defensive
all the time. And people become defensive (and offensive) when they
have something to hide.

Thank you. I believe it's a worthwhile experiment.
Groundbreaking in fact. (If it works.)

If it works, we all benefit from uplifting the discussions on this ng.

The strategy of the "Year of Maria" is to ask probing questions of why and
how iOS works the way only iOS works, so as to raise intellectual content.

My promise to you, and to everyone, is to avoid responding to the taunts,
and to deflect each taunt and attack back to the technical topic analyzed.

Note that I'm making the goal obvious and public so as to add impetus to
the realization of a newsgroup which becomes more intellectually uplifted.

I'm not perfect, so at times I may spiral into the abyss, but if/when I do,
I hope you (& others) help us all bring the ng back to the highest level.

The point of this topic is that this illustrates a typical Arlen thread.
Start with an absurd premise, link to random web pages that do not support the
absurd premise, CLAIM that the websites support the absurd premise and then
attack everyone who points out the obvious.

Over and over and over.

Hi Tyrone,

Thank you very much for opening this question which forces us all to think.
Specifically, it forces us to think deeper about WHY iOS is the way it is.

There's a vast difference between humor and ridicule, yet, I enjoyed this
thread you kindly authored because it provides us all an equal opportunity
to intelligently discuss the intellectual future of this Apple newsgroup.

To your fundamental (if slightly hidden) main point, intentional ridicule
does not change nor alter the fact that iOS handles identity and token
renewal in a way that is different from other platforms, including macOS.

That difference is worth examining in a newsgroup dedicated to the product.

Understanding why a system behaves the way it does is part of any technical
discussion, especially when the behavior is unique & has real effects on
devices (e.g., 'bricking', aka "Activation Lock" as the ultimate outcome).

No other common consumer operating system behaves that way. Just iOS.
What you appear to be attempting to ridicule is simply the question:
 Q: Why?
 A: ?

I believe that asking how and why something works is not an absurd premise.
It is the fundamental basis of truly understanding any operating system.

If you think the behavior I have described cannot happen, then explain the
mechanism in iOS that prevents it instead of attacking the question with
ridicule.
--
My goal on this Apple newsgroup is three fold, the first of which is to
help people, and the second of which is to learn, and lastly, to teach.
