I use the Mid function to emulate the lacking Mid statement:

s1=mid(s1,1,100) & "sample" & mid(s1,101)

As always in VBS, there are several ways to perform a task. Not 
recommended, but works:

s1=replace(s1,left(s1,100),left(s1,100) & "sample",1,1)
