#17251 — Status of ruff and depending packages

Hello list, hello Jelmer,

packaging and keeping ruff updated is a challenge as we all know.
Currently the version in Debian stuck at 0.0.294 for quite a while,
upstream is currently at 0.14.8.

There was some effort taken to update ruff and also to update existing
build dependencies and also to introduce newly needed packages.

https://bugs.debian.org/1074734
https://bugs.debian.org/1108905

Is someone able to give a overview about the current status?
I'm not an experienced Rust packager so I won't be able to help on that
out in a big way. But maybe some other related things could be
coordinated and helped out?

Should we create a wiki page for easier tracking of the state?

I recently started with relaxing the rust deps, however I am not done
yet.

IIRC capitol already packaged the majority of deps, not sure if this is
necessary.

ahh, I see. Thank you very much for working in ruff! And thanks for
pushing the current state. Due this I see it's moving forward. ;-)

For reference:

I've no overview about newly needed Rust packages, but I'm also not
experienced enough with Rust packaging in Debian to help out on a
serious base.
I you think a wiki package isn't needed as most of it all is done then I
trust you.
If there are some Python packages that are needed (for tests e.g.?) I'm
happy to take a look.
