This has been filed upstream as 
https://github.com/mkdocstrings/python-legacy/issues/10, but there's 
been no activity there so far.

I note that this is explicitly a legacy package, and that there are no 
remaining (build-)dependencies on it.  I think it might be sensible to 
just remove it rather than trying to fix it.  Carsten, what do you 
think?
