It's fully compatible with standard iterators and async iterators alike, providing a single unified, familiar interface for interacting with iterable objects. This package is a (recursive) dependency of the new version of jupyter-notebook (including its testsuite and docs). It will be team-maintained within the Debian Python Team. The Debian packaging is on salsa at https://salsa.debian.org/python-team/packages/aioitertools
