SubjectNeed help to upgrade libnetlib-java package
Message-ID<qW0Ty-8hX-45@gated-at.bofh.it>
Hi,

I'm in the process to upgrade libnetlib-java and when doing so moving it
from Debian Med team to Debian Java team. The build system has switched
from ant to maven. I've commited my current work to pkg-java git[1].

The build ends currently up with

I neither understand why plexus-containers jars are not found nor
why com.github.fommil.netlib POMs can not be accessed (isn't this
in the very same source tree?)

Any help is welcome.

Kind regards

SubjectNeed help to upgrade libmtj-java package

Hi,

I'm in the process to upgrade libmtj-java and when doing so moving it
from Debian Med team to Debian Java team. The build system has switched
from ant to maven. I've commited my current work to pkg-java git[1].

What is currently confusing me that possibly some versions of
Build-Dependencies are enforced but I have no idea how this works. For
instance the log says:

[WARNING] The POM for org.apache.maven.plugins:maven-deploy-plugin:jar:2.7 is missing, no dependency information available
[WARNING] Failed to retrieve plugin descriptor for org.apache.maven.plugins:maven-deploy-plugin:2.7: Plugin org.apache.maven.plugins:maven-deploy-plugin:2.7 or one of its dependencies could not be resolved: Cannot access central (https://repo.maven.apache.org/maven2) in offline mode and the artifact org.apache.maven.plugins:maven-deploy-plugin:jar:2.7 has not been downloaded from it before.
[WARNING] The POM for org.apache.maven.plugins:maven-site-plugin:jar:3.3 is missing, no dependency information available
[WARNING] Failed to retrieve plugin descriptor for org.apache.maven.plugins:maven-site-plugin:3.3: Plugin org.apache.maven.plugins:maven-site-plugin:3.3 or one of its dependencies could not be resolved: Cannot access central (https://repo.maven.apache.org/maven2) in offline mode and the artifact org.apache.maven.plugins:maven-site-plugin:jar:3.3 has not been downloaded from it before.
...

Since these are only warnings I wonder whether these are needed at all.

There are also warnings about missing plugins:

   coveralls-maven-plugin
   maven-java-formatter-plugin

which we do not have in Debian (as far as I can see). Regarding further
warnings:

[WARNING] The POM for com.github.fommil.netlib:all:pom:debian is missing, no dependency information available

Well, when finalising libnetlib-java I intend to add a working maven
control file.

[WARNING] The POM for org.projectlombok:lombok:jar:debian is missing, no dependency information available

No idea what this means and if this is really needed.

[WARNING] The POM for com.github.fommil:java-logging:jar:debian is missing, no dependency information available

Same here: No idea what this means and if this is really needed.
For the real errors we have:

[ERROR] Failed to execute goal on project mtj: Could not resolve dependencies for project com.googlecode.matrix-toolkits-java:mtj:jar:1.0.4: The following artifacts could not be resolved: com.github.fommil.netlib:all:pom:debian, org.projectlombok:lombok:jar:debian, com.github.fommil:java-logging:jar:debian: Cannot access sonatype-releases (https://oss.sonatype.org/content/repositories/releases/) in offline mode and the artifact com.github.fommil.netlib:all:pom:debian has not been downloaded from it before. -> [Help 1]

Hopefully this could be solved with a proper maven control file in
libnetlib-java.

Any hints whether something else than a fixed libnetlib-java might
be needed and I can prepare this in parallel.

Kind regards

         Andreas.

You can ignore them. The deploy plugin is for uploading the jars to a
Maven repository, and the site plugin generates a web site with various
reports. We don't use them when building Debian packages.

You can ignore them too (code coverage and code formatting).

perf/pom.xml depends on the 'all' module which isn't referenced in
debian/libnetlib-java.poms. Just ignore the perf module.

liblombok-java is missing Maven artifacts in /usr/share/maven-repo

Used by the perf module only, ignore it.

Yes, but not the same version. core/pom.xml refers to the parent pom
com.github.fommil.netlib:parent:1.1, but the parent pom.xml has the
version 1.2-SNAPSHOT. You just have to patch the poms such that the
versions match.

OK, seems better now, but ...

Did I miss some declaration of the version? I decided to keep 1.1
since that fits the download version better than 1.2-SNAPSHOT.

Thanks as always for the quick help

I pushed some tweaks, but at this point it's blocked by the missing
artifacts in liblombok-java.

Thanks as always for your help.

I tried to fix this in lombok. I noticed that the d/watch file was
wrong and fixed this in Git. Then I went to

  https://repo1.maven.org/maven2/org/projectlombok/lombok-maven/1.16.6.1/lombok-maven-1.16.6.1.pom

and fetched the maven artifact file. I'm wondering why they are using
1.16.6.1 since upstream remains at 1.16.6. I have no idea whether this
is a problem or not. Unfortunately I'm not able to build the package
but ending up with:

   debian/rules override_dh_auto_build
make[1]: Entering directory '/build/lombok-1.16.6'
echo lombok.version=1.16.6 > debian/lombok.version.properties
ant -lib /usr/share/java/ivyplusplus.jar dist dist-utils
Buildfile: /build/lombok-1.16.6/build.xml

version:

compile:

BUILD FAILED
/build/lombok-1.16.6/build.xml:168: The following error occurred while executing this line:
jar:file:/usr/share/java/ivyplusplus.jar!/com/zwitserloot/ivyplusplus/antlib.xml:30: typedef class com.zwitserloot.ivyplusplus.eclipse.BuildEclipseProject cannot be found

Total time: 0 seconds

I do not think that this is related to my changes. Any idea?

To come back to the libnetlib-java package it seems I need to add a
substitution rule for lombok as long as the artifact is not provided by
liblombok-java, right?

Kind regards

     Andreas.

Hi,

any idea how to build libnetlib-java with the existing lombok package or
how to fix the lombok package that I can build libnetlib-java
successfully. I have no idea what might went wrong here.

Kind regards

      Andreas.

I'm currently working on getting the android gradle plugin into Debian
and lombok-[ast] is one of its build-dependencies. I'm facing a similar
issue and I think this must be solved within src:ivyplusplus. The
attached patch (workaround) might get you a little further. I also
noticed that lombok master fails to build from source (some TABS are
missing in debian/rules) and I suggest to create a separate branch to
ensure that master always works.

Regards,

Markus

These stupid tabs were injected by me due to a cut-n-paste error which I
injected when I tried to force the installation of the maven artifacts.
Its fixed since yesterday evening - but this is not the only build
failure. :-(

Sorry for stealing your time with unchecked commits

I admit I made no progress at the time of the mail above and I'm
wondering whether somebody more competent than me might tackle this.
At least the libnetlib-java issue remains. :-(

Any help would be welcome

Hi Andreas,

where can I find libnetlib-java?

https://anonscm.debian.org/cgit/pkg-java/libnetlib-java.git

returns an error message

Hi,

sorry I can't get it to work either. I don't understand the error

changing the version makes no difference.

Any other hint? I admit I'm tempted to upload an older version to main
(from contrib) since this build issue is blocking the migration of a
chain of dependencies for to long now. :-(

I am totally new to maven in Debian and no maven expert in general, but
to me it looks like we are missing the org.sonatype.oss:oss-parent pom

This might be a hint. When seeking with apt-file for sonatype I find
several packages featuring some maven files in a dir sonytype. Most
promising looks:

libsisu-maven-plugin-java: /usr/share/maven-repo/org/sonatype/plugins/sisu-maven-plugin/1.1/sisu-maven-plugin-1.1.jar
libsisu-maven-plugin-java: /usr/share/maven-repo/org/sonatype/plugins/sisu-maven-plugin/1.1/sisu-maven-plugin-1.1.pom

When adding libsisu-maven-plugin-java to the Build-Depends of
libnetlib-java the very same error remains. Any better ideas?

Kind regards

      Andreas.

Hi Andreas,

ok, so  oss-parent seems to be not in Debian (it is here: https://repo1
.maven.org/maven2/org/sonatype/oss/oss-parent/7/oss-parent-7.pom).
If it really is required, it need to be packaged.

I tried to remove the parent entry from generator/pom, and build
without it. Maybe oss-parent is not essential.
When I do this, I get:
    [WARNING] The POM for org.apache.maven.plugins:maven-install-
plugin:jar:2.5.2 is missing, no dependency information available
and later on
    [ERROR] Plugin org.apache.maven.plugins:maven-install-plugin:2.5.2
or one of its dependencies could not be resolved: Cannot access
central ( https://repo.maven.apache.org/maven2 ) in offline mode and
    the artifact org.apache.maven.plugins:maven-install-plugin:jar:2.5.2
has not been downloaded from it before. -> [Help 1]
This happens, even after I installed maven-install-plugin which I find
rather strange.

Maybe this brings you a step closer and you have an idea how to go on.

Ben

This sounds like a probable alternative. If there is no better idea I
might start with packaging it from here[1]. However, it also might be
avoidable according to this mail[2] - so there might be a way to
circumvent packaging more and more stuff I do not really understand.

Any further hint?

Kind regards

      Andreas.

No, not really. My gut feeling too is, that packing oss-parent is not
required. To me it looks like something in the Debian specific setup of
the maven dependencies of libnetlib-java is missing, but I do not see
what. You probably need to figure out the root cause, why installing
maven-install-plugin does not help in finding the maven-plugin. Maybe
it is some setup here that is missing somewhere.

Good Luck

Benjamin
