I agree that the repositories should be preserved. I don't see the benefit of moving the repositories to a different namespace though, it induce an additional maintenance burden and invalidates the Vcs-* fields. An alternative would be to flag the repositories with a Gitlab topic or archive them [1], ideally in an automatic manner.
