Thank you, found the issue in "root" .profile, you were correct a '1' had been added to Prompt Command variable.

This will be caused by something in your environment -- either the PS1 variable, or the PROMPT_COMMAND variable, or a DEBUG trap, which is being set in one of root's dot files on your system.

Most probably, you've got $(( )) where you meant to have $( ), or something along those lines.  It'll probably be obvious once you print out the contents of the PS1 and PROMPT_COMMAND variables, and the output of "trap" with no arguments.
