Hat man die Frage beim Sicherheitsgurt auch gestellt? Womit hat man da verglichen? Autofahren ist eine der gefährlichsten Tätigkeiten, allerding haben Unfälle heute im Mittel weit weniger schwere Folgen. Mir hat der Gurt drei mal geholfen. In allen drei Fällen wäre auch ohne nicht viel passiert, aber mit eben gar nichts. Ein Holland-Radler ist doch idR Alltagsradler mit z.B. einem Hollandrad und hollandbedingt bergfrei? Sind ja schon andere Umstände... Ich hab mir den Helm angewöhnt, wie ich mit Kindern aufm Kindersitz hinter gefahren bin, weil die Helm tragen mussten, also ich auch als Vorbild. Ich mag ihn nicht mehr missen, schattiert das Gesicht und hält Regen davon ab, direkt in die Brille zu tropfen. (Alternative ist ein Filzhut, und das mag ich mir nicht antun...) Bei meinen 3 unfreiwilligen und fremdverschuldeten Abgängen hat der Helm garnix genutzt, Handschuhe und Knieschoner und Ellenbogenschoner hätte es gebraucht... Thomas Prufer

Sondern vielleicht auch eine HWS-Orthese wie die Leatt, Brustpanzer/Rückenprotektor, Ellenbogenschützer, Knieschützer/-orthese und Handschuhe. Im Haushalt (der klassische Leiter-/Treppen-/Badsturz), bei der Gartenarbeit (Obsternte), wenn man am Dach rumturnt um z. B. die Regenrinne zu säubern, als Fußgänger im Mischverkehr, beim Fahrradfahren in der Stadt und sonstwo, auf dem Mopped/Roller und natürlich im Auto. Viele Statistiken belegen auch Letzteres. Darum tragen MTB-, Rennrad-, MX-, DTM-, Superbike-, F1-, Tourenwagen, Rallye- und sonstige Sportfahrer u. A. den hier vorgeschriebenen Helm, meistens mit Nackenstütze (z. B. HANS) oder HWS-Orthese. Meine Probleme beginnen mit der Ausübung eines gesellschaftlichen Zwangs i. S. von "jeder vernünftige Mensch weiß doch, daß Helme nützen" oder dem Aufbau von Horrorszenarien, wo der Freund eines Freundes ein Unfallchirurg ist, in dessen Notaufnahme logischerweise nur diejenigen Patienten kommen, die sich - ganz gleich ob mit oder ohne Helm - schwer verletzt haben und eben nicht fluchend aufgestanden und weitergefahren sind. Das Argument mit den beim Sturz zerstörten Helmen (und was wohl ohne mit dem Schädel passiert wäre) als Wirksamkeitsnachweis ist angesichts z. B. einer Pudelmütze wohl kaum haltbar. Schließlich bewirkt das Schreckgespenst des vor allem ohne Helm ach-so-gefährlichen Fortbewegungsmittels "Fahrrad" neben einer Erhöhung der Verkaufszahlen für Helme nach Ansicht einiger Statistiken in ganz anderer, unerwarteter Weise eine Reduktion der Schädel-Hirn-Traumata unter den Radfahrern: Es steigen einfach weniger Menschen auf den Sattel, die verunfallen können. Ein möglicherweise ähnlicher Mechanismus sorgte in Australien für einen deutlichen Rückgang der Kopfverletzungen nach Einführung der Helmpflicht. Zumindest ist dies Gegenstand hitziger Diskussionen, wie auch das Thema "Risikokompensation" und veränderte Wahrnehmung von Helmträgern durch andere Verkehrsteilnehmer. Und schließlich finde ich es inakzeptabel, wenn wegen der Schadensbegrenzungs- und Sorgfaltspflicht des Versicherungsnehmers und etwaiger Regreßforderungen oder Kürzungen des Schmerzensgeldes eine Helmpflichteinführung durch die Hintertüre passiert. Der Gesetzgeber möge sich bitte mit den für alle derartigen Richtlinien geltenden Minimalanforderungen an Sinnfälligkeit, Wirksamkeit und Angemessenheit auseinandersetzen und dann entscheiden, ob die Einführung einer Radhelmpflicht im Sinne der Bevölkerung ist oder nicht. Bis dahin hat die Frage "Helm auf?" außerhalb von Vorsatz und grober Fahrlässigkeit rechtlich überhaupt keine Rolle zu spielen. Warum nicht im gleichen Zug eine ebenfalls durch geeignete Helme deutlich stärker reduzierbare Zahl von Kopfverletzungen im Auto propagiert wird, möge sich jeder selbst überlegen. Ich habe da schon so eine Vermutung. Volker

Da sieht man lächerlich aus!" ein Gespräch mit einem Radprofi über manches Erlebnis beim Absteigen ohne zu bremsen oder gar mit einem Unfallchirurgen über die unterschiedliche Qualität der Unfallopfer mit und ohne Helm, gerade auch beim Radfahren. Ich bin mal in etwas Hektik aus dem Buerosessel, aufs Rennrad, zu einem Meeting in der Kirche geduest. "Where is your helmet?" war die erste Frage aus der Gruppe, als ich das Rad in den Raum schob. Hatte ich in der Eile vergessen. Einer sagte dann "If I am on my bicycle without a helmet I feel naked". Ohne Helm sieht man hier fast nur Obdachlose und einige Jugendliche, obwohl unter 18 Jahren oder so Helmpflicht gilt. Fuer Erwachsene haben wir keine, aber dennoch sind fast alle vernuenftig und tragen Helm. Bis auf manche Unistaedte. Es gibt Leute, die meinen, wenn sie langsam fahren, brauchen sie keinen Helm. In Nordkalifornien haben wir nur stellenweise Radwegenetze. Die sind teilweise sogar besser als die in den Niederlanden und erst recht als die in Deutschland. Ich gehe bis zum Beweis des Gegenteils davon aus, daß auf dem Territorium der USA die gleichen Naturgesetze gelten wie in Europa. Wenn du mit dem Fahrrad gegen einen Poller oder ein vergleichbares Hindernis prallst, fliegst du nach hinten weg und setzt dich gewaltig auf den Allerwertesten. Wenn du seitlich fällst, kann es aber auch passieren, daß du auf den Kopf fällst.
