While it has ben literally decades since I looked at MFD, I'm quite
sure it's not doing what you describe.  It is almost certainly reading
a snapshot of the MFD that was placed in a file specified by MFD.
As the MFD (not the program) is effectively contained in a temporary
file assigned by the Exec, there is no way for a user to read the MFD
directly.
