Additional Mac newsgroup added.

Please don't be shy. I'd like to know what YOU think about the use of AV
software on an Apple computer.

AV Software still means "Audio Visual" software to me. Good overall
caveats about anti-virus issues from Galt.

That made me smile! :-)

I wonder if anyone reading these newsgroups DOES ignore John's advice
and /has/ installed a commercial anti-virus software programme on an Apple
computer.

If there is, WHICH product have they chosen?

Whenever I've asked, Malwarebytes is almost always the suggestion.

Yes, but it is now a real curse. You install it, run it, and then have
to peel each finger off your system with de-installation. It's truly a
nuisance.

I think, based on how many times you have asked about anti-viruses on
the newsgroup, you may have missed this sentence in his presentation:

Rather than asking which non-Apple "anti-virus" or "Internet security"
product is best, a much better question is "how should I protect my
Mac". Maybe you should also dwell on his three bullet points just prior
to that statement.

I have always tried to follow common sense since I started using
computers in 1983 and on the internet since 1995. I have fixed many
compromised computers for clients during that time, but never had an
issue with my own devices, outside of hardware issues.

Thank you for answering my question.

With your considerable experience and knowledge, can you advise on WHY
this procedure is necessary?

As I am not the developer and I have never used it, I can't answer that
question. I know it was included with some of the early macOSX server
versions. But, I never used used it, although some folks in a other
locations did. You might try contacting the developer with your
question. Maybe he is willing to provide you with an answer, if he is
willing and provides support for purchased versions.
