#104425 — Remote Devices and iTunes

FromJF Mezei <jfmezei.spamnot@vaxination.ca>

SubjectRemote Devices and iTunes

With the loss of optical drive when moved from Macpro 2009 to SodaCan
2013, I have topyed with different possibilities to paliate that loss.

On my Xserve (Snow Leopard), inserting a DVD causes it to pop out a
minute or two later. Would a headless machine rejecvt DVDs because it
can't display them? (I have a Screen Sharing session on, so perhaps DRM
to prevent this ?)

Now, however, inserting an Audio CD resulted in same. The eject is not
instant. It takes about a minute.

My Xserve is due for its annual cleanup/dust off. Perhaps that is it.
But does anyone know of reasons for such behaviour other than the
optical drive failure?

Meanwhile...

I inserted Audio CD into my laptop. The disk shows up as "Remote
Device" and from my MacPro, I can navigate to it. But it will not
display any files, and from iTunes on MacPro, I cannot import the CD.
Is this normal?

(I assume it is because the MacPro won't synthetize the .AIFF files
because disk't isn't really mounted, but doesn't see the host system's
synthetized .AIFF files).

Is there a way around that?

Pain to have to import the CDs onto laptop's iTunes and then move to the
desktop and then delete from laptop.

I may simply buy an optical drive for the macpro. (more clutter under
desk) but before I do, if I could get the Xserve to work elegantly, it
may be good enough solution to RIB my optical media library.

better to celebrate.

either the disc is unreadable or the drive is defective. possibly both.

no.

if it's a commercial audio cd, then the drive is likely defective. if
it's a homemade disc, see above.

perhaps.

no.

yes

there aren't any 'files' on an audio disc. what you see is faked.

> Is there a way around that?

import it via itunes.

no pain at all. it'll take a few minutes to import and less to copy.

they're cheap.

What a pissy, foolish, sad life you must lead to be so upset that you feel
the need to constantly troll devices you decided were worth enough to spend
your own money on by using silly juvenile names to refer to them. : D

Amazing. Your life is so empty that you are reduced to sad flames about what
he calls his computers? Really?

For the record, my main systems are:

Server, running Ubuntu: ABDA (look it up). Hard drives named for ships
assigned to ABDA, notably Houston, Perth, and Exeter.

old laptop, running Win 7: Viper. Drive is Bushmaster.

New laptop, running Win 10 (but not for long): Wilhelm Canaris (there’s a
reason for that name), drive is Abwehr (look it up). Will get new names when
I get around to putting Ubuntu on it.

Mac mini: Kido Butai. (Look it up) Drives named for ships assigned to the
Kido Butai. including Kaga, Akagi, Hiryu, Soryu.

Mac Pro: Force H. Drives named for ships assigned to Force H, including
Illustrious, Ark Royal; SSDs named for operations run by Force H, including
Pedestal and Catapult.

iPad: Frost, named for John Dutton Frost, CB, DSO & Bar, MC.

iPhone 6: Walker, named for Frederick John Walker, CB, DSO & three Bars, RN.

iPhone SE: Rooks, named for Albert Harold Rooks, USN.

by all means comment.

Amazing. Your life is so empty you are reduced to defending juvenile
trolls? Really? See? Anyone can play this game! : )

And he didn't *name* his computer that as you seem to suggest; he
routinely uses juvenile names to refer to the new Mac Pro because he's
obviously butt hurt about its features, despite the fact that he felt
they were worthy of spending money on.

By all means, cry harder for the trolls. They definitely need your
continued support.

The only person defending well-established FUDster trolls in this thread
would be _you_.

the thing is: he wasn’t trolling in his initial post. It was silly, it was
incoherent, but it wasn’t trolling. You, on the other hand, _were_
trolling. And still are.

Uh huh. Anyone who is paying attention knows it's on record that JF Mezei
constantly trolls in these newsgroups. What is relevant in this case is he
often uses juvenile and derogatory names for people who work at Apple as
well as Apple products and technologies he dislikes while spreading his
stinky and ignorant FUD in these news groups. If your urge to defend the
indefensible causes you to want to ignore all that, that's on you. Don't
you expect others to gleefully follow.

he wasn’t trolling this time. Your reply, on the other hand, was trolling.

were did he do this in the original post? please be specific.

your bias is showing.

Your bias towards protecting FUD-spreading trolls is clear. My only bias is
against JFMezei, the FUDster troll, whose record is plain for all to see.
Ignore his record if you want. Just don't expect others to follow.

I call my Mac Pro a ‘cheese grater’ Mac Pro. Soda Can ain’t derogatory.
Not even close.

I noticed. trust me, _everyone_ noticed. You foam at the mouth whenever he
posts, no matter how inoffensive it might be.

and, one more time... the post that you replied to was not a trolling post.
It was silly and incoherent, but it wasn’t trolling. Your reply was way out
of proportion. And your replies since have served to underline your massive
personal bias for all to see.

You are wrong. This is how he starts. He asks some question about
something that doesn't work quite the way he expects. then people
foolishly try to help him, at which point he starts going off on some
bullshit idiocy FUD troll. It's his pattern.

maybeso. The fact remains that the initial post was not a troll. If he had
followed up with troll, then by all means engage then. JR’s reply was
completely out of proportion and was itself trolling.

The self-appointed net cop (who himself hasn't bothered to try to help
JF Mezei at all in this thread) wants to tell the rest of us what to do.

You are wrong. Trolls are spotted by reputtion. No one evaluates every
single post in a vacuum. Not only is JF a known troll with a known
pattern, but he's posted nearly this exact troll before.

At which point Lewish and Joly Rogers barge in with all the FUDster
trolling to kill the value of the tread, exactly as happened to this one.

Considenting all the spam in thsi newsgroup over the past month to which
both twins Lewis ahd Roger participated), you'd think a legit question
would be welcomed to bring this back to OS-X discussions. But Twin
Lewis/Rogers still prefer to veer any discussion ibnto accusation of
trolling.

Nope, you are a KNOWN troll. There is no "accusation" of trolling,
you've proved it countless times.

And your pathetic and juvenile attempts to claim that JR and I are twins
is preciously absurd, and yet another example of your weak-ass trolling.
