With the loss of optical drive when moved from Macpro 2009 to SodaCan 2013, I have topyed with different possibilities to paliate that loss. On my Xserve (Snow Leopard), inserting a DVD causes it to pop out a minute or two later. Would a headless machine rejecvt DVDs because it can't display them? (I have a Screen Sharing session on, so perhaps DRM to prevent this ?) Now, however, inserting an Audio CD resulted in same. The eject is not instant. It takes about a minute. My Xserve is due for its annual cleanup/dust off. Perhaps that is it. But does anyone know of reasons for such behaviour other than the optical drive failure? Meanwhile... I inserted Audio CD into my laptop. The disk shows up as "Remote Device" and from my MacPro, I can navigate to it. But it will not display any files, and from iTunes on MacPro, I cannot import the CD. Is this normal? (I assume it is because the MacPro won't synthetize the .AIFF files because disk't isn't really mounted, but doesn't see the host system's synthetized .AIFF files). Is there a way around that? Pain to have to import the CDs onto laptop's iTunes and then move to the desktop and then delete from laptop. I may simply buy an optical drive for the macpro. (more clutter under desk) but before I do, if I could get the Xserve to work elegantly, it may be good enough solution to RIB my optical media library.

Your life is so empty that you are reduced to sad flames about what he calls his computers? Really? For the record, my main systems are: Server, running Ubuntu: ABDA (look it up). Hard drives named for ships assigned to ABDA, notably Houston, Perth, and Exeter. old laptop, running Win 7: Viper. Drive is Bushmaster. New laptop, running Win 10 (but not for long): Wilhelm Canaris (there’s a reason for that name), drive is Abwehr (look it up). Will get new names when I get around to putting Ubuntu on it. Mac mini: Kido Butai. (Look it up) Drives named for ships assigned to the Kido Butai. including Kaga, Akagi, Hiryu, Soryu. Mac Pro: Force H. Drives named for ships assigned to Force H, including Illustrious, Ark Royal; SSDs named for operations run by Force H, including Pedestal and Catapult. iPad: Frost, named for John Dutton Frost, CB, DSO & Bar, MC. iPhone 6: Walker, named for Frederick John Walker, CB, DSO & three Bars, RN. iPhone SE: Rooks, named for Albert Harold Rooks, USN. by all means comment.

It was silly, it was incoherent, but it wasn’t trolling. You, on the other hand, _were_ trolling. And still are.

Anyone who is paying attention knows it's on record that JF Mezei constantly trolls in these newsgroups. What is relevant in this case is he often uses juvenile and derogatory names for people who work at Apple as well as Apple products and technologies he dislikes while spreading his stinky and ignorant FUD in these news groups. If your urge to defend the indefensible causes you to want to ignore all that, that's on you. Don't you expect others to gleefully follow. -- E-mail sent to this address may be devoured by my ravenous SPAM filter. I often ignore posts from Google. Use a real news client instead. JR
