Having checked again, I can now play at least a random sample of recent programmes without Flash. Yay! They must have changed that recently. Still no Apple TV app, though. Also looks like MediaWorks have dumped Flash. (Scoots over to Mac Mini and uninstalls Flash.) Thanks for making me look again. -- David Empson dempson@actrix.gen.nz

The only advantage that Firefox has over Safari, if you can call it that, is more addons and plugins. But it's been a long time since I couldn't do what I wanted with addons on Safari, so Firefox is just an inferior UI/UX. Chrome does offer a few slight advantages and differences over Safari (the inclusion of its own Flash being a small one). Chrome also works, or works better, with a few sites than Safari does. Right now, the only thing I am using Chrome for on a consistent basis is the DSM page for the synology, which in Chrome supports file drag and drop. That said, Chrome is a resource hog and a battery pig, so I tend not to leave it running even though it's much better behaved than it has been in the past. It's been months, or at least weeks, since its "Energy Impact" was in the thousands. -- sometimes ascii is the best use of bandwidth... Tonya Engst

Usually, yes. But sometimes (for entirely stupid reasons) Flash is required. My wife has to interact with a site for her work that requires Flash. The choices are install it in the OS, or run Chrome. Not sure when I last had to run Chrome for anything other than the DSM webview, and that's more that one specific issue doesn't work correctly in Safari. Or maybe it's a Java issue. Drag-and-drop file copy to the Synology is not critical though, it's just a convenience. -- Lead me not into temptation, I can find the way.
