Made the mistake of clicking on the "maximise" 3rd button on Firefox.
Brought the thing into the annoying full screen mode. How does one get
the hell out of this ? I ended up command Q and then restarting it.
Nothing else seemed to work.

Note that pressing Escape doesn't work in all apps. What does seem to
work everywhere is moving the cursor to the top of the screen and
clicking the zoom/full screen button on the window title bar. The
keyboard shortcut Command-Control-F seems to work universally as well.

Did not work.

Moving cursor to where the menu bar should be did not make it appear.

Next time, I will try to remember the (bunch of modifiers)-F combo.

I was able to alt-tab to switch to other apps, but as soon as I came
back to Firefox, it would get back to the dreaded full screen mode.

You probably didn't hover there long enough.

It's Command-Control (and two isn't a "bunch").

Push the cursor to the very top of the screen - not just over the grey area.

Grey area ? All 3 screens go BLACK. I tried twice. First time, no menu
mar appeared no matter where on top of any of the 3 screens the cursor
was. But control-cmd F worked.

in second attempt, i was able to get the menu bat to appear by having
cursor on top of the Firefox window on screen 2 and the menu bar did
appear on screen 2 (supposed to appear on screen 1).

I just do not understand the purpose of that full screen mode.

To the top of the screen where the full screen app is located.

Common sense wopuld be to cause the menu bar to appear where it is
supposed to appear and thus to locate the cursor where the menu bar is
mean to appear.

Menu bar appearing on same screen as a window is not "common sense" when
you have a single desktop with menu bar always on screen 1.
(Neither is it for Apple to blank all 3 screen when you request a video
to appear on one screen in full screen mode, which Safari insists on
doing. (one of the reasons I avoid Safari).

The menu bar is irrelevant since you don't touch the menu bar to exit
full screen mode. The *window* *title* *bar* is what should (and does)
appear right above the full screen application in question. It's very
simple: move the cursor to the top of the screen displaying the app in
question; when the window title bar appears, click the green button.

> Menu bar appearing on same screen as a window is not "common sense" when

The window title bar appearing on the same screen as the full screen app
makes perfect sense.

> you have a single desktop with menu bar always on screen 1.

You're focusing on the menu bar when you should be focusing on the
window title bar of the window you want to change.

In the case of Firefox, a menu bar appears and the top and "part of it"
is a fake title bar. Both menu and title bars are one unit that is
disp, ayed above the actual window (obscuring the top part of it.).

Irrelevant. Hover the cursor, click the green button on the window title
bar. Done.

Odd. I use Safari every day and do not have this problem. I am often
watching a fulls screen video on my second screen while working on my
main screen.

If I put Mail's main screen (which is on my secondary display) into full
screen mode (green button), the main screen goes black.

Likewise, if I move Mail to the iMac screen and green button it to full
screen the side display goes black.

This seems in fitting with the purpose of full screen mode which is to
focus on a given task.

Same behaviour:
	Chrome
	Safari
	Excel
	Quicktime
	   :

Exception:
If I full screen QuickTime with CMD-F then the other screen stays up.

Not here. Not in any of these apps.

It may have something to do with the type of connection used for the
display.

Ah, I think I figured it out. He went into the Mission Control settings
and turned off "Displays have separate Spaces."
