Well, duh. The pent up demand for fresh laptops has been building for a
while.

Probably because of the backlog of people waiting to upgrade caused by
the long upgrade cycle. It will be interesting to see if the sales
continue strong once this pipeline is flushed out.

And Miley Cyrus outsells good music. What does that prove?

That a lot of people are willing to spend $2000 on a new Mac Book Pro.
Far many more than those complaining on twitter about dongles.

In response to complaints, Apple significantly lowered the price of the
dongles. For Apple to react this way, there must be a reason which you
shouldn't dismiss.

It is also possible that this is just an initial surge of sales,
responding to pentu up demand by people who waiting to upgrade, knowing
there were new laptops coming. The real tests requires maybe 1 or 2
quarters of sales (which only Apple has).

The fact that it sold well does indicate that for a portion of the user
base, the lack of ports is not an issue.

There is no lack of ports.

All the MBPs have multiple ports.

Sorry JR, you're going to have to update that SCSI drive!

Also, that Apple ][ floppy is just not going to work with the MBR, no
matter how hard you try.

Were Zip drives also available with SCSI ports? I had a Zip, not for
long, thank heavens, and don't recall its connecting particulars.

OH, and a 20 Meg drive from a company long out of business. A deal at $700!

Yup! SCSI first, and then USB 1.0

I have a USB Zip drive which I haven't used in over 12 years.

Also an external Parallel version for Windoze-box users, and an IDE /
ATAPI / ATA version for installing inside the computer (Apple used them
on some Macs as standard and options).

I have an internal Zip drive in my PowerMac G3. I use it from time to
time, but really only to access old backup / storage disks, but only
have about half-a-dozen disks because they were too expensive. One of
the disks I made up as an emergency boot disk with a System 9 folder
and various useful utilities.

I also used the disks a couple of times (many years ago) to transfer
large files that wouldn't easily fit on floppy disks to somewhere I was
doing work for, but it was annoying since they had to borrow an
external drive from the workplace of one woman's husband each time.

Yep. I still own one and use it occasionally with my classic Macs.

Parallel and SCIS when introduced. USB came along a bit later (1998 or
99, IIRC).

Parallel (printer port) and SCSI were available at first. The later was
much faster at writing. I used zip drives at home as static and
incremental backup over a few years. When I went on to CD's as backup,
I erased (wrote over) the disks and sold them for $5 a pop.

Are they lining all edges? Are their 17 on each edge? No? NOT ENOUGH PORTS!

I'm going to have to find a USB C to USB B Superspeed cable. I'd rather
do that than get a dongle.

Nonsense. There are plenty enough for me and *many* others. Don't buy it if
you dislike it. Simple.
