It's quite common in the tech world. I've had three connected to a MacBook Pro at work. All you need is a monitor with a cable that will connect to the particular display-compatible port your computer has. My daughter had an extended outboard on her white MB. There have been a couple times I've had mirrored display between a notebook and a TV but just to view videos really.
