I note that in doing "Get Info" on my internal hd, there is a line that
I'm curious about:

Available: 115.72 GB (2.25 GB purgeable)

What's that "purgeable" about?

It's a new feature in macOS Sierra:

Yeah, a great feature all right.

It "helps free up storage space on your Mac" (which is free) by moving
files to Apple's cloud servers where you have to pay rent if you move
enough to make a meaningful increase in your hard disk storage space.

Good one Tim. The stockholders are proud;-)

For those not hung up on big ass hard drives, which are certainly NOT free,
this is a good thing. My MacBook has 256Gb of SSD storage so I could
certainly see how some would find this a big plus. But I read the support
document over and over again, and didn't notice a single thing that was
required to be done so those that don't find it of value can keep on the
way they've been doing.

It is all about choices!

Right. I have desktops with quite a bit of storage. I will NOT be using it.
Others might. Cool!

If you weren't just trolling and had bothered to read the whole thing
you'd know there are *several* features, *most* of which have absolutely
*nothing* to do with storing anything in the cloud.

You'd also know the "Store in iCloud" feature is completely *optional*
and is turned *off* by default, meaning it's an opt-in feature.

Every Apple account gets 5 GB of *free* storage, which is plenty. Most
people are happy using the free tier without paying a single dime to
Apple.

By all means troll on if it helps you feel better about yourself.
Watching someone make a fool of themselves is certainly entertaining to
those of us who know better. : )

Choices. Use of iCloud is not only about storage, but about mobility
and access to data from various machines. I don't need this feature as
my "mass data" is stored on disks (which oddly enough were not free).

For what little I do need to have available from anywhere, Dropbox is
sufficient - but I've also started using iCloud for some file sets.

> Good one Tim. The stockholders are proud;-)

They certainly are. Apple is doing great.
