I am thinking of a SSD as well, but which one? Too bad Apple doesn't
give those out for its HDD swap.

I like my OWC Mercury SSDs. I have two in my Mac Pro, and another in my
MacBook Pro that I combined with the 750GB HD to create a Fusion Drive to
get 850GB of speedy storage:

Woah, those are cheap. Based on MBP9,2, 1 TB is only $46? I was
expecting hundreds of dollars! Prices really have gone down. Maybe I
will get one! ;)

And a 750GB SSD is much more expensive than an equivalent HD.

And now we have an answer what happened, "... It was in the case and
computer bag, I guess was not well protected when the bag fell from my
roller luggage. It worked for one day then stopped working..." Another
reason for a SSD! I wonder what else broke in it. :P

I hate to be the bearer of bad news, but if that drop was from a
significant height and with sufficient force, there may be more wrong
with it than just the hard drive itself. Can you tell where the computer
hit the ground? I would expect to see a dent or some other mark.

Probably best to bring it to Apple and let them give it a full checkup
to see what they can find wrong with it.

Not that I noticed. It sounded like it was a low drop, not a high drop.

Apple will fix it too for free if allowed? :/

anything that's defective is covered. anything due to customer damage
is not.

if they see a dent, they might not fix the hard drive.

And my client doesn't want them to have the HDD too. Since AppleCare
ended eleven days ago, it might not be worth it to him. He did consider
getting a new MacBook too. Heh.

So erase the drive before you bring it in. Problem solved.

Every day you wait, your chances of having it repaired for free go down.
What are you waiting for?
