Yeah, you know, 98% of cops really give the rest of them a bad name.
I've related this before, but I will once again in case it was not in
one of these groups.
Three times I have testified in court as a witness. In every single case
the police office testifying lied. In two of the cases obviously and
stupidly lied. In one case, three police officers testified in absolute
synchronicity an entirely fabricated version of what had happened without
a single shred of truth.
But the courts believe police officers and grant them special status as
more truthful than regular people. In my direct experience police always
lie. Sometimes it's about trivial things that are inserted to make the
defendant appear to be a bad person or a liar or a fool, but often it is
complete fabrication with no semblance to reality.

I've visited, so I don't know if that helped me form my opinion, but I
find the 'us vs them' attitude in U.S. policing frightening.
Also, you know, outside TV news reports, I don't think I've seen a NZ
police officer carrying a gun in public outside international airports
in over a decade. The only time I've seen NZers on public land with guns
are hunters in the country. But I couldn't go for a day in the U.S.
without seeing guns in public.

You are very confused. I live in the US. I see the pathological violence

I was in Oakland in June, It is poor, but it's not so bad. But yes,
ofter decades of abuse, murder, false arrest, and prosecution completely
off the charts in comparison to white folks, there *is* more anger and
violence in minority communities. Imagine that. Add to that the massive
incarceration rate, the laughable "Justice" system, and the constant
harassment for "Being brown" all across this country and yeah, you have
a lot of people who are rightly disgusted with the police and the entire
inJustice system. And not all of those people are minorities either.

Then you are blind. Oh wait, you put innocent in quotes. Right. ANyone
murdered by police is automatically guilty of something and it's
perfectly OK for the police to curcumvent the courts (as pathetic as
they are) and enforce capital punishment on the street. Yeah, forgot I
was talking to a former cop.
> Those who try to find a way around their negligence usually find

Bull fucking shit. A cop who murders an unarmed child may get a
reprimand. Maybe even suspended. But the union will challenge it, win,
get him back pay, reinstate him, get him extra money for the stress and
he'll be right back on the street shooting someone else soon enough.
About the only thing a cop can do to actually get fired is take bribes.
They do seem to be pretty touchy about that.

Yep, and it happens on a regular basis.

Bullshit. All one need do is open a fucking web browser and you can find
case after case where bully cops kill innocent civilians.
I guess you are of the opinion this guy had it coming, for instance:
<http://educate-yourself.org/cn/ianbirkspdmurderer18fab11.shtml>
On behalf of every single American citizen your beloved bullies in blue
have abused or killed: FUCK you.
> Those who try to find a way around their negligence usually find

More bullshit. All too often they are slapped on the wrist and end up
working on a police force in a neighboring town to give the illusion
that something was changed when in reality, nothing changed.

Your rhetoric causes innocent deaths of civilians.

So I believe you just said that corporations are corrupt because of the money they give to politicians. Politicians that take money from corporations and unions are corrupt. Since all politicians take money from corporations or unions whether they lie that they didn't or not, the whole damned system is corrupt to the tip top. I tend to agree with that. The laws that allow this was made by politicians in Congress. This whole mess was made by cleverly skirting constitutional intent while swearing they didn't. Do you buy into where we are now? > And cops killing innocent civilians isn't pathetic and extraordinarily > dangerous? And exceedingly rare. You claimed cops throw grenades into baby cradles. Could you cite two examples, or are we dealing with hyperbole. It might have accidentally happened once, but I'd like the cite. After all, you ridiculed my one cop argument. You are a far more valuable member of this group than I am when you're on topic. I'm sick of the political nonsense here and will respond accordingly when my offense goes critical. leo

The issue not mentioned here is that in the case of Ferguson, it wasn't just one bad cop, but also the whole police force and town who failed to react properly to one officer shooting a civilian. And they totally failed to handle the media circus that ensued. There needs to be consistent training and standards for all cops. This way, when you see someone in a police uniform, you know what to expect. With insufficient training and weeding out of bad apples, it becomes possible for a whole town's police to be totally inadequate, allowing lots of bad apples.

One bad cop might not spoil a city police force, but with the "blue line" one bad cop, even in a large police force can do a shitton of damage since he will be protected by his fellow officers, and then his bad cop behavior will spread to others as acceptable. A significant amount of money for LEOs comes from illegal seizures of property in which no criminal charges are ever filed.
