iTunes 12.2.1.16 / OS 10.10.4

I've been reworking a lot of iTunes databases and here's a couple of
things that Apple seems to have changed--unless of course there's an
option-click in the vicinity that I don't see! ;-)

I note that now when I create a smart playlist, that it comes up in
some kind of default format where I can no longer add or remove
columns. Under View > View Options... is now greyed out. I use to
simply press CMD-J and pick what I wanted to see or remove. No more.
That makes the display of a smart playlist dramatically less useful.

Also, in the one place where CMD-J is still available, the main music
window, I can remove the iCloud column by going to View > View Options
> Show Columns and then toggle iCloud Download off, where it will stay
until I quit the program. The next time I run the program--it's back
again!

Are these now "like-it-or-lump-it" features in iTunes?

Okay, after futzing with this all day, and posting here I *immediately*
found a way to do this. With "Songs" as the display format, I note
that at the top middle I have "My Music" and "Playlists". The
distinction between the two of these is that the playlists appear in a
sidebar only in the latter--and additionally there's no column
adds/drops available. If "My Music", and no playlist display, well
THEN and only then, I can change my columns. What the hell is that all
about.

Everytime I go from one playlist to another I have to change to "My
Music" (it's ALL my music!), and then I can manipulate it. There's a
couple of unnecessary mouse strokes!

Wrong again: If you select under "Playlists" you will look at the
columns Apple by god wants you to look at which will include iCloud
Downloads even if you don't. If you select a Playlist that you want,
and then select "My Music" you can have some control over it.

Sheesh! Lame!

I have that version of iTunes and I can add and remove columns as
needed while looking at a playlist.

You must not have noticed the Playlist layout menu where you can switch
to different layouts:

<http://jollyroger.kicks-ass.org/usenet/itunes/playlist_layout_menu.png>

The "Songs" layout is what you are probably most used to using.

Same behavior here. Probably a bug in iTunes. The column doesn't take
much space; so I wouldn't worry about it.

I just moved from a 27" iMac to a MacBook Pro. "Not much space" has
changed for me. I sure wish they'd leave iTunes alone rather than
making it the rosetta stone for they whole Apple kingdom.

Dude: I don't know is happening on your machine, but it isn't a
deliberate thing by Apple.

It works just fine on my machine.

On my machine, removing the column works fine - until you restart
iTunes. Then the column re-appears on its own. It's a bug.

Very much so. But mine was lower case, adjectival, you know. Easier to

So move it to the extreme right and be done.

I'm not the one who doesn't want the column, since I use iTunes Match
and don't mind having it there. I'm just commenting that removing this
column doesn't work correctly. ; )

No, that was me. I did move it to the right eventually but curiously,
while dinking and doinking through a boatlod of preferences, I find
that it's not there any more anyway. It only repeatedly comes back if
you have some Apple Store or icloud tunes related options toggled
on--or so it would seem.

I use iTunes to do research in antique musics and so I have gotten into
the habit of using its displays of information in certain ways. Though
burying some options in a menu seems stupid, but it might make it
easier for the hotkey-aversive. But making it non-operational within
certain playlists, I can't imagine the thinking; I think it's a bug.
I'm sure the "so do it differently" solution to fumble with the mouse
for 3+ clicks probably has it's ardent supporters.

I've managed to figure out where a number of the things once logically
available have been buried or contorted for some kinda "real good
reason". So I'm about where I once was with the program. The iTunes
designers seem to be enjoying turning music-playing software into an
Apple shopping bag, but I've already got a shopping bag.

But it works fine on IT'S machine, and IT is the voice of authority. But others say IT'S nothing but a dumb, little shit troll.
