Every time I reboot (not very often, admittedly), my Apple full-size USB keyboard is dead. I have to unplug/replug to get it to work, sometimes three or four times. Is there any way to avoid this? Has happened with 10.9, 10.10, and now 10.11. Mid-2011 iMac. -- _____________________________ Ron, the humblest guy in town

Have you tried:
- Using other USB sockets on the iMac??
One of the sockets may be faulty.
- If using a USB hub, does plugging directly into the iMac help?
It could be the hub isn't getting enough power or is faulty.
- Using other USB wired keyboards??
The cable to the keyboard or the connection inside the
keyboard may be faulty.

You could book a session with an Apple Genius to see if they could fix it. Sounds like a HW problem. They could see if another Apple keyboard repeats the problem. Could be the USB port on the Motherboard or the cable to your keyboard or something else? Does it happen with some other vendor's keyboard? Personally, I hate the Apple membrane keyboards and use a Matias Tactile Pro. But the Macally 101 keyboard is nice. http://www.amazon.com/Macally-iKeyslim-Hi-Speed-Keyboard-Ports/dp/B001NXD QBI -- DeeDee, don't press that button! DeeDee! NO! Dee... Apple's flat aluminium keyboards are basically just laptop keyboards. I haven't used one for a continuous long-term period - they seem okay to type, but the mini version is hopelessly cramped and looks ridiculously silly sitting in front of an iMac, especially a 27" model. The proper full-size one with a numeric keyboard is much better. Membrane keyboards are the disgusting garbage you used to get on Sinclair (aka Timex in America) toy-computers decades ago, and still get on many ATMs, checkout card readers, photocopies, printers, and in workplace machines (usually those in grubby environments).

Had the same problem with that model keyboard a few years ago. Apple replaced it under warranty and there have been no problems since.

I have this issue with the KB at work. (MBA 2014). But it stays pretty
static (setup) and I too reboot rarely (when there's an update that
requires a reboot - so it can be many weeks between reboots).
I ordered a keyboard from Apple and got the same result so I sent the
new kb back.
