New OS X version requires reindexing spotlight. This takes a few hours to a couple of days for most people, depending on the amount of data they have on their computer. iOS also has to reindex everything, including photos and music. This takes time. If you have a lot of data to download (like a lot of photos in iCloud) this can take a long time. In order for my new iPhone 7 Plus to download 92GB of music and 40GB of photos and index them, it took over a week, during which the battery life was short and the phone tended to be hot, especially when on wifi. Part of this was installing two new versions of iOS 10.1 in that week, but even so, it's a lot of work. Now that everything is on the phone the battery easily lasts 12 hours if I don't use Pokémon Go. -- Evil is a little man afraid for his job.
