I’m using two external drives to backup a MBA.  One is a complete backup 
and the other excludes files in the Music folder.  I eject the drives 
after each backup and check the options settings in the sys pref time 
machine pane to turn the music exclusion on and off depending on which 
external drive I’m about to attach.

I don’t believe this problem happened before OS 10.11 but I’ve been 
getting not infrequent error messages when attempting to eject the 
external backup drive which say that the backup drive wasn’t ejected 
because one or more programs may be using it.  This despite the fact 
that the sys prefs time machine pane indicates that the backup is complete.

There is a system message to force eject.  There was also a separate 
system message to retry at one point.  I gave the retry a shot to try 
and capture the relevant console log data (appended below).

Looks like the line:

points to the culprit.  What should I be doing to try and solve the 
problem? And can I assume a force eject won’t muck up the integrity of 
the backup?
