I think you replied to the wrong sub-thread. Anyhow, your assertion is highly subjective and also highly debatable considering: Linux tends to be much less energy efficient on Macs than macOS. Often battery life is much worse, and systems run hotter when running Linux than they do when running macOS. The Linux user interface is schizophrenic, clunky, and complex. Drivers malfunction more often (or don't work at all). And *many* valuable mainstream software applications don't even run. Personally, I don't consider such a crappy desktop user experience to be a "great solution". I've got old Macs still running 10.6 that are *much* more useful than they would be running Linux. > Many of my friends are setting up old MacMinis to use Ubuntu > for their kids. They get a jumpstart on Linux use which will lead them > anywhere. I don't see how macOS couldn't lead them just as well. Most *nix software compiles and runs on macOS natively. And while macOS is obviously different, many parts of the macOS UNIX implementation are quite similar to mainstream Linux distributions. So one can gain a whole lot of very useful technical knowledge about *nix without bothering to run Linux on a Mac. So unless you are specifically interested in a particular Linux distribution, or particular Linux-only technologies or software stacks, there isn't much of an actual need to run Linux on a Mac. And even when there is a legitimate need, you can do so in a virtual machine inside of macOS to enjoy all of the benefits of macOS while running Linux at the same time. -- E-mail sent to this address may be devoured by my ravenous SPAM filter.
