Nothing prevents you from refraining from updating to El Capitan until
you know those details. Apple's not holding a gun to your head forcing
you to upgrade. 

Aren't you the same person who is bitching and moaning that your ancient
OS X 10.6 installation isn't playing nice with iOS 9 anyway? Something
tells me you won't be upgrading the day El Capitan is released anyway.
So just wait a while and let others do that work for you. : )

You should do that with *every* upgrade, yes.
