I would think a fair number of crashes > in OSX world are related to that. Well, right now they have a problem in El Capitan when you have two monitors attached using Xcode... it crashes the os. Most likely they didn't update it correctly, and most often it was because the end user downloaded stuff from some other maintainer that used to be around that used a lot of open source files. Some of those packages that were installed, fink I believe, caused a lot of problems. I removed find and all of its sub-directories and the problem went away.
