 It's a mixed bag so to speak. The Koren movie and an additional Japanese
 displayed the subtitles just fine. However, later today I find that they
 no longer do. The subtitle bar in VLC and QT 10 and 7 are grayed out and
 nothing I've tried seems to help at all. Tried numerous setting changes
 and no joy. On VLC's FAQ is a hint to delete "Org.Videolan.Vlc.Playlist,
 but, I'm afraid to delete anything from the Library as I was to mess with
 system files on Windows.

 I originally did exactly as you all advised, and it worked. But it seems
 to be a one time thing and then not be able to reset.

 I am certain that there is a simple fix for this, but I ain't seeing it;
 as usual.  Just a FYI, I'll keep researching this and advise later.

 Just as a reference point, the Koren movie which is in very limited
 quantities and in DVD format 3 I think which is only good in SE Asia is:
