Sorry to hear that. Whether it's disposable "rehearsal" clips/stills or
the real thing, the very first thing I do is back it up locally, either
by drag-and-drop or, when appropriate, with SuperDuper. Knock on wood,
I haven't lost anything /yet/ .

I don't get the usefulness of Time Machine/Time Capsule via WiFi,
though I have two Time Capsule drives. It's much faster and more
convenient for /me/ to store SuperDuper clones on external drives where
the Apple file hierarchy is preserved and no clumsy (to /me/ ) graphic
interface is required to find and restore a file to my internal drive.
Of course, with six Macs in our home, my wife and I have a considerable
investment in high-capacity external FW drives, not less than two per
Mac.

I don't store irreplaceable files in the cloud, and if I did it
wouldn't be iCloud. I reserve that for syncing calendars and contacts,
with data also remaining on all devices. Apple has a poor record with
cloud services, IMO; I don't remember how many they've gone through and
abandoned -- .Mac, iTools, MobileMe come to mind -- and I no longer
trust them. Final Cut Studio, Aperture... As if I bought a car and a
couple of years later the Mfr. said "That model can no longer be driven
and is unsupported. No parts, no service, but we have a new model that
will work for a while." And Apple has no pro-level backup software for
iCloud; it's all canned amateur stuff, too much automation, too few
choices.
