Basically all they are is a laptop style motherboard that has been
installed inside a large monitor case.

The limitations, if any, are the same you get with a laptop minus any
battery issues.

Most are limited to possible upgrades of memory or hard drive space.
The rest of the hardware is usually closed to the consumer for upgrades.

If you are heavy into high end computer games make sure that the device
you purchase can handle the game(s) you want to run on it. Get a money
back return policy, in writing, for at least 30 days with out a heavy
restocking fee, just in case the game(s) you want to install will not
work on the box.
