I had to go through several incarnations to overcome this problem, now I
have a samurai, ninja, ranger, mage, and an alchemist. Hit level 5 and
mage just picked up fireball. In case you are wondering the sixth
member is a valkyrie. Totally skipping Wizardry VI now because party
creation is more flexible if I start in Wizardry VII. There's just not
enough encounters at the beginning of Wizardry VI to get a quick start
there.
