The temp sensor on the card reads the GPU temp. You could have some 
other chip like the voltage regulator module (VRM) getting too hot. 
Although I would think that if the GPU is cold enough and you have the 
stock cooler, then the VRM should be cool enough also, unless there is 
a problem like dust or air blockage.
