I use the BobTerm 1.2x, that is connected to HyperTerminal for Windows. Baud speeds 19200, use Y-modem, file transfer speeds too slow! more likely 300cps... Why's that? Any suggestion? how to increase the speed?

300cps = 300 * 8 = 24000bps so you're actualy getting more than you should out of a
19200 connection.

That's 2400 bps, not 24000.

Are you sure you're not just getting a lot of re-tries from corrupted
packets?

Actually RS-232 and SIO send single bytes in 10-bit packets. So it's
actally 3000BPS. And even if he's using a newer MODEM that packages
100s, if not 1000s of bytes into a packet, it still has to convert it
all into the same old 10-bit packet format when it hands it off to the
Atari's SIO port.

Ah....keep your lines of text limited to 72 characters when posting on
the USENET. The actual limit is 79 but you want to leave room for all
of the ">" characters that get added in when replying.

Try using Z-MODEM. Does anyone remember the name of that Z-MODEM Atari
programme???

But remember that Y-MODEM was made back when it took several seconds to
send a single kilo-byte. 19200BPS would give you 1920CPS if you were
using no file transfer protocol at all so it would only take half a
second for each packet to be sent/recieved. Thus Y-MODEM slows things
down compared to Z-MODEM. But Y-MODEM should still give you much faster
speeds than 300CPS.

You probably mean ATAR-Z-MODEM by Larry Black?

Ice-T XE by Itay Chamiel can also do ZMODEM.
