Hey! I'm posting this message using SNAP!!

WOW. All I can say first: loading the newsgroup list is *not* fun.
Loooong wait for 2 MB to download into the IIgs. @_@

What are the specs?

Well, this is a rather "bare bones" IIgs:

- ROM 03
- 2.8 MHz
- Apple 1 MB expansion for 2 MB total RAM
- Uthernet card provides a 10 mbps Ethernet interface
- FocusDrive with CF adapter for 128 MB of storage

And of course, Marinetti 3.0

I'm not sure how often I will use this GS to read news, but at least I can
say that I've done it-- and posted!

Anyone else?

Now that you've got the header backlog, it should be much faster in the
future. ;-)

Unless there's a setting that I don't know about, it appears to be
downloading the headers every single time that I view the group.

Also, the Date header line when posting is completely messed up. I had to
set the IIgs clock 3 days in the future and adjust the time to be 6 hours
later.

(posting from my usual newsreader this time)

Since its first release, these are the first bug reports I have actually
had about SNAP! I have seen some odd things happen myself, and had it on
my radar to take a look at fixing them at some point, but the NiftySpell
SAM2 updates have taken priority recently.

Please email me with exact details of what is not working for you, and I
shall see what I can do when I get some time. You will find my contact
details at the end of the SNAP manual.

Cheers - Ewen

I found the solution to downloading all the headers-- I had to mark the
group as read.

I think that the time problem was caused by the TimeZone CDev. I had the
setting for -6 hours, and I had to set the IIgs clock 6 hours ahead to get
accurate time. I don't think that was a coincidence.

But for the date problem, I don't know. It thought that it was the 14th of
April, when it was really the 17th. Why does SNAP even set a Date header
line? The server usually provides it automatically.

Usenet servers cannot know what messages you have read, so any reader
has to do that itself. It describes in the SNAP manual how SNAP will use
the highest message number last read to get the next set of headers.

If you still think there is a problem, send me an email to the bug
reporting address in the SNAP manual. Send me the log entry showing the
message you sent, the time zone you had set in the TimeZone CDev, and
the time your IIgs clock said when you sent it.

NNTP or Usenet messages, are required to have a Date field in the
header, showing when the message was first sent. Unlike emails, the
servers do not add a time to the message.

Time to see if the date is correct this time around. Current date for me should be 03 May 2011 at 3:35 PM

I get NNTP-Posting-Date: Tue, 3 May 2011 20:35:47 +0000 (UTC) for your post.

20:35 is 8:35 PM, so if you're in UTC-5 it is correct.

And here's a test followup ... let's see if I got the date right.

This message got through to my news server, but the thread starting
message seemingly didn't.

Yes, that would be because your server rejected an article posted 3 days in the past. :-)
