That's sufficient to drag the head back to zero (and probably bounce off the stop a few times) no matter where it starts out, and without caring where the software might *THINK* it is or was. Step back $50 phases, set your "where's the head now?" variable to 0, and presto! Your software is now guaranteed to be in sync with your hardware. -- Security provided by Mssrs Smith and/or Wesson.
