A while back we had Magic Goto and Magic Gosub and I thought I remembered
something similar from a Call-APPLE article, but as usual, could not produce
results.

Well, after more reading, here goes. Follow along:

1.) Reach over to your shelf that contais all the Call-APPLE magazines and
pull out the May 1981 issue.

2.) Open this issue to page 17.

3.) Therein, read the article about Super Apple BASIC.

It's not exactly the same, but it's similar. No doubt Magic Gosub and Magic
Goto are actually good improvements on the idea of using labels. :-)

Did you know that there are other sources for Apple II material besides
Asimov?

Not for long, apparently.

But seriously - Bill Martens has asked that Call-APPLE material not be
posted.

What the heck -- Why?? Is preserving the history of (Apple) culture not important enough?

Ideally I'd like to order back issues oline on PDF. Since it isn't about money, since they don't offer that option, what is the real reason??

I was referring to the Call-APPLE web site. And you can probably still buy
the individual print magazines from eBay or other online sources.

No no no, don't think that way! These magazines are well worth the money! I
have been fortunate to inherit mine so I've never had to buy them, but if
they were to issue subscriptions again just like they did 30 years ago, I
would subscribe.

The Peeking at Call-APPLE compendiums were immensely valuable resources for
me when I was still learning the most absolute basics about the Apple II. In
fact they are sitting on top of the monitor on the cover of The New Apple II
User's Guide.

Alright, I'll consider subscribing later this year.

Just wish they would release the back issues as Public Domain now ...

Since I missed this back in January, I thought I would revisit this since I have been looking for the Super Apple Basic package. It is on Pages 17 and 18 of the May 1981 issue of Call-A.P.P.L.E. Magazine and the package was written by Paul Lutus. The is a disk label program written in Super Apple Basic in the same issue but the only known copy was in Val Golding's archives.

As for other resources, all you have to do is check http://www.applearchives.com and you will find tons of resources. To answer Michael's question, our site has been online sine 2002 so I think 13 plus years qualifies as longevity.

As for not posting the materials, they are available to our members, although with the 40 plus other sites we operate, we have put out tons of free materials over the past 13 years with the help of many members of the community. Also, we are constantly updating materials, including a current re-scan project of the magazines to 600 DPI in order to facilitate putting all of the articles online on the main A.P.P.L.E. website.

Sadly there are those who just copy ours and other sites verbatim and post the materials elsewhere which has created issues including a major loss of revenues for people like Bob Tripp who created the Electronic version of What's Where in the Apple II. Projects like this take a great deal of time and effort and the fact that some people felt it should be free belittles the effort put forth by a lot of hard working people who really just want to see the materials available for the next generation.

These projects take up to a year at a time and thousands of man hours. People like Chris Torrence, Doc Weyhrich, Mike Harvey, Andrew Roughan, Bob Tripp, David Finnigan, Robert Clardy and Brian Wiser among others have put a lot of time and effort into making materials available and they deserve to be paid for their efforts. In reality, the small amount of funds raised by sales of the materials don't even do justice in this category.

Yes but show me an Apple repository that has the stability, longevity, and breadth Asimov has. :-)

I've been using Asimov for ~15+ years. Can't say the same about any other Apple sites. :-/

Ivan's work is definitely amazing! Using labels inside REM is pure genius.
