I don't use my BTinternet email addresses very often for sending email
mainly just incoming, but lately when I have tried to send an email it
just sits in the Messenger outgoing queue?

I have had issues recently with port number and I have changed them and
email can be sent again but this time it doesn't matter what port number
I use email still stays in the queue.

The port numbers I have been using are 110,995,143,993,465 all to no
avail.

I am using Messenger Pro 8.05wpb1 (23-Aug-2021)

Hermes 5.56.01 (21 Oct 2022)

Netfetch 5.56 (1st May, 2024)

At the moment my setup is: SMTP mail.btinternet.com, Port 995, SSL
usually 465

Assuming it is actually a Port number problem as it usually is?

My question is what is the current port number please to use with
Btinternet I am now on Port 995?

Many thanks for any information gratefully received.

Stephen

It has been a long time since I set mine up but a quick check shows my
Hermes setup to be...

SMTP mail server - mail.btinternet.com
Port - 25
I need to log in to this account - Checkbox ticked
User name and Password - Completed with my details

If you want the Incoming server details then Choices from icon bar menu of
netfetch the Emailboxes for incoming settings.

If you accessing Hermes then menu over the icon bar icon then mailaccounts
allows you to choose between incoming and outgoing.

Where do you find info about ports, and how do you change them?
How do you know what port to use?

I have tried the above configuration thanks, but still no joy.
Maybe it is because the AcornSSL 1.05 (23 Apr 2020) mbedTLS 2.16.3 is
out of date on my machine, Where can I find the latest update please?

I think BT had a major email outage the other day which might have
affected you.

All the details are here from BTinternet:

https://www.bt.com/help/email/manage-email-account/manual-settings/what-are-the-settings-for-outgoing-and-incoming-bt-email-servers

Thats all one line.

> I am using Messenger Pro 8.05wpb1 (23-Aug-2021)

You might want to update to current version v9.01 I believe it is on
offer at the moment from R-Comp.

> Hermes 5.56.01 (21 Oct 2022)

Ensure you are using at least version 1.06 (27 May 2023) mbedTLS 2.28.5 of
the AcornSSL module, be careful to check the mbedTLS version information
of the module as that is what tends to be undated

> At the moment my setup is: SMTP mail.btinternet.com, Port 995, SSL

It should be 465 check your you have SSL enabled, and make sure the APOP
is unticked by the looks of the above link.

That is wrong! it either has to be 993 for IMAP or 465 for SMTP. port 995
is *only* for POP3.

Good luck

Mine is the old version of AcornSSL 1.05 (23 Apr 2020) mbedTLS 2.16.3
perhaps it is this that is the problem, I have tried all the above
configuration posted on here to no avail, the error message in
Hermes transfer status shows "Connection lost".

I would do the following steps.

1) get the latest AcornSSL module and install it (keep a backup of the old
module just in case). Once installed reboot your computer.

2) change your settings in Hermes/Netfetch to the *official* ports as per
the link I gave above, those are the only settings that will work.

3) Before trying to send any emails, go to your account in NetFetch/Hermes
and change the mail log levels to I suggest to "detailed" as this will
record the full exchange of the hand-shake between you and the server and
might give a better clue as to actual error behind the scenes.

Let us know what happens.

I had this recently, and I have discovered the reason.

The e-mail I sent said RSVP

I discovered in Hermes "Filters" that it would not accept a message in
capitals. There is a list of "Exceptions" such as RISC OS but it didn't
have RSVP. I typed in RSVP but it still didn't send.

However, after re-booting the computer, I tried again, and it sent the
e-mail.
