Apart from Impression, which I've never used, a lot of people tend to
miss Eureka. I used to use this, but I now exclusively use Fireworkz
and Fireworkz Pro, which are being maintained. BlakHole was useful,
and had been given a new module which made it work on the Iyo, but it
doesn't like the ARMini. In general, I'm fairly satisfied with how
much does run on the ARMini, and I can always use VRPC for the odd
thing that doesn't. Prime among these for me is SiteMatch.
What do others think?
With best wishes,
Peter.

SiteMatch 1.13 works perfectly on my ARMini, with Alignment Exceptions on, in association with the ARMv7 !FTPc 1.48. The later SiteMatch 2.39c looks to be OK as very briefly tried here. I never upgraded because I has slightly ammended 1.13 myself and it wasn't broken. -- David Pitt

Thanks for that. I've updated SiteMatch to 2.39c and I have the same
FTPc 1.48. I'll have a play with them when I next need to do any
updating.

I can't remember where the module came from, but I have it in my
backup, and as far as I know it can be distributed. In fact, I think
someone sent it to me.

Yes, and I've got that now; see an earlier post.

Why! Are you going to upgrade 'em? ;-) Knowing is not much help... Eureka for me is the major problem that will keep me out of the RO 5 loop. Easy to say, use Fireworkz32 (Of which I do have) but who's going to do all the reconstruction work to re-create *all* my business spreadsheets, then the multiple sheets that are all interlinked. There's no auto converter to take a set of Eureka sheets and convert 'em to FWZ. I did do a couple of re-constructions in FWZ32 some years ago as a see if it could be done, but it was a *lot* of work, and in the end didn't work as well as the Eureka sheet. A far simpler solution would be dump this archiac OS, transfer everything to MS-windows... Eureka sheets will translate/convert to Excel with only minor adjustments required. As it is, I'm sticking with RO 6.20 and Eureka. Dave -- Dave Triffid

Well FireWorkzPro is being developed and you now even get the Windows
version included as well.

Well the latest FireWorkzPro has better Excel import facilities and
though it does have differences between it and Eureka if you are going
to go to the trouble of moving to the darkside then you still have to
do the same/simialr amount of export/import and changes etc.

You could always ask for the features that you think would help now it
is being developed?

I am about to eat the words which I didn't get round to typing :-)
My memory is that trying to export Eureka files as Excel fouled up the
date fields, and I would imagine these fields are rather essential to
people such as the excellent Dave Triffid. However, I've just gone to
VRPC and exported an Eureka file as Excel 4, dragged it over to this
ARMini and loaded it into the latest Fireworkz Pro, and, behold, the
date fields have emerged intact!
Just one tiny problem: Fields such as "9 March" are fine, but "1997"
comes out as "1,997". I imagine that could be easily fixed.
So, Dave, it could be done, given the necessary will! Many thanks to
those who have updated Fireworkz to have this functionality.
With best wishes,
Peter.

Sorry Peter, while the *data* from Eureka can be chucked into the FWZ versions, either by the Excel export method or even the RO global clipboard (RO 6.20) the formatting and the created functions do not. I have FWZ32 templates the formatting of which match exactly my eureka sheet formatting, but there's no way I can, get the data into that FWZ sheet without destroying the format of the FWZ sheet. The Eureka constructions of my sheets was the third, and I no longer have the will or the energy to undertake the amount of work required for a fourth. > With best wishes, > Peter. On the other hand there is no way (Aside I assume from CSV) to get stuff out of Eureka into FWz whatever version. > > As it is, I'm sticking with RO 6.20 and Eureka. > > Dave > You could always ask for the features that you think would help now it > is being developed? > Doug But Eureka ceased development in late 1996 and from what I'm led to understand never will, or could be developed again. If your last para was about FWzpro, there's no point. Eureka was the third time I'd re-constructed my business stuff, I don't have the time or the energy left to do it all again. D. -- Dave Triffid

Yes I would really like Sleuth 3 and Tablemate to be fixed to work on

Does 'Sleuth 3' work with alignments off?
Have you contacted APDL - on possible answers?
An early version of 'Tablemate' that was bundled with 'Impression was
32bitted many years ago.
I believe tha CJE has the source to the later versions - but not the
module 'ImageConv - which I had a go at converting.
Anyone tried 'Textease'?
Would a converter program be exceptable for 'Eureka'- HB did a Fireworks
to Pipedream4 converter - I believe.
Any users out there of 'Euclid' - Druck has some files of aeroplanes -
but I didn't see a red/black Triplane among them them :-)
Nice one of a turbofan engine though.
Someone else has done a 'stage' from a theatre.

No. Will talk to them. Thanks. > An early version of 'Tablemate' that was bundled with 'Impression was > 32bitted many years ago. Umm, are you sure?? I've used TableMate for years (from the very beginning and the author made one or two mods to meet with my own particular needs) and I don't remember that - but then the old grey cells are more than a bit dodgy. > I believe tha CJE has the source to the later versions - but not the > module 'ImageConv - which I had a go at converting. Err, not yet. Expected any minute now, in the post, a definite maybe. Spoke to them only yesterday, in anticipation of an upgrade to the ARMini. > Anyone tried 'Textease'? I've just spent a couple of hours trying to get the 32bit version of !Textease 5.91 (April 2003) to work on a Beagleboard-xm running RO 5.18 without a lot of success. Yes it will load to the icon bar but produces a blank error box which disappears if you click OK. Clicking the icon opens a textease box and you can type a few words into it but after a while the same error box appears and no ammount of clicking the OK will remove it the only way out is <ALT> BREAK. I added the -l option to the end of the !Run file to create a log file but that only contains a lot of lines containing 0 - and nothing useful. Removing the options at the end of the !Run file like -EFF -FontBlend %*0 -ProfPrint got me a bit further although the same blank file occurred and had to be cleared with OK I also got another message box with writing in it:- "Textease stopped - internal error (5). Saving unsaved work to a temporary file." Pressing OK then removes !Textease from the icon bar and the same message occurs if you then try to reload it. Looking inside the !Textease folder reveals a real mess of 56 files and folders including some modules which are dated in the 1990s so are 26bit with only the I bought Textease Studio in 2000 v.5.43 (26bit) installed it on my RPC and didn't use it much as I found occasional problems. Sometime in 2005 I heard that softease was being taken over by RM and would drop Acorn support but for a short time the upgrade files were available free so I downloaded them from: http://www.textease.com/downloads which now reports "This Virtual Directory does not allow contents to be listed." I went through the 26bit upgrades to version 5.83 which seemed to work OK on the RPC. I then did the upgrade to the last version 5.91 (April 2003) which was 32bit. To get it to work on my RPC I had to also download there !System "upgrade", Textease did work up to a point but occasionally fell over but I had problems with other programs so removed these "Upgrades" and reverted to my backup versions and 36bit ver5.83 Textease. It is this 32 bit version that I have transferred to the Beagleboard -xm. I wondered if the problem was that it wasn't registered on the BB-xm but clicking on one of the other programs in the studio suite did display the box showing that it was registered. I cann't instal from the original disk as it's a bit of a catch 22 situation - the upgrade is from the 26bit to 32 bit version so I would need to install the 26bit version from the original disk first put in my serial number and key before upgrading to 32 bit but of course the 26bit installer will not work on the 32bit BB-xm! I don't think it's worth the bother. Did anyone get the 32bit upgraded version running properly on the original Iyonix? Alan -- alan.dawes@argonet.co.uk alan.dawes@riscos.org Using an Acorn RiscPC

Yes. I have 5.93 working faultlessly on the Iyonix (ros 5.18). Lazy
task swapping has to be turned off.
If Textease worked on an Armini - I would be buying one!
