May not be trivial since I see you are using v. 4.40 (1 Dec 2005),
and now up to 5.02. Looking at the change log - there are many,
including changing the number of parameters to certain FN/PROC calls.
Obviously will depend on whether you use any of them.

I appreciate this - which is why it's probably best that I do it myself,
having written the thing.

I have now done this. The version 1.24a RunImage now uses DrWimp 5.02 and
/seems/ to work OK.

I haven't been able to test exhaustively that all the buttons on all the
error boxes will do the right thing, but it should work sufficiently well
to see if the DrWimp library was a contributory factor to the failure on
the BeagleBoard.

Available at:

        http://petit.four.free.fr/picindex/download/index.php

If Chris or anyone else manages to get the other components up to speed,
please get in touch, and I'll make a new version to use as the latest.

I'm really pleased that people apart from me are still using Pic_Index and
wish to continue to do so on their new machines!

Yes John, it's really important for me - and when I add an Armini or
similar.

Just tried on my ARMini, and this version still doesn't work I live in

I await the depencencies from Chris which he has updated. Then I think
we'll have something which will work OK. And be a bit future-proof.

Would you please do *show Sys$OSVersion and tell me what the value of
Sys$OSVersion is on the ARMini?

Sorry to say John I concur with Peter - you're Pic_Index modifications
are not working :-(

I'm guessing Peter is running 5.18 on his ARMini but I have the
development OS on my Beagleboard which is 519 (5.19) as
reported by Sys$OSversion.

My modifications were a precaution in case the version of DrWimp /was/
causing problems.

Chris has now sent me his modified bits which I will incorporate when I
have time tomorrow and announce its availability as a package.

He had it working with the original RunImage at least at a simple level.
It'll be down to you chaps to test it to destruction!

OK - this version has the DrWimp library updated /and/ incorporates Chris
Johnson's modified bits with which he successfully processed an album of
photos.

Available at:

        http://petit.four.free.fr/picindex/download/index.php

Needs testing thoroughly on the BeagleBoard/Armini and also other machines
- just in case I've made an error in the updating of the library calls!

Fingers crossed!

I think you can uncross them! It's running here on ARMini, RISC OS
5.10, though I won't have time to do anything useful with it for a few
days, as there's a lot going on here at present.

Many thanks,

Thanks for the quick initial feedback, and much thanks to Chris Johnson for
making all this possible and so quickly!

Now we need extensive testing to detect my possible errors - revisiting the
coding after such a long gap wasn't that easy!

Thank you John and Chris for all the work you've done on getting this
excellent utility up and running on ARM Cortex A8 Beagleboards. This is
a fantastic achievement. It was only when I opened the Pic_Index
directory and realised its complexity (DrWimp and all the support
utilities) I had some idea of the task you guys were facing.

I haven't done exhaustive testing but like others I have been able to
generate a thumbnail group and used the Comment editor without
problems.

Again many thanks.

Best regards

Richard

I'm not sure what you mean here Steve - I thought the latest version
of DrWimp (5.02) was ARM7 compatible. If you click DrWimp's MyApp
(containing the library) it loads into Tasks without error - I've
probably misunderstood so please enlighten me?

It is, but Pic_Index is using v. 4.40 from 2005.

Since DrWimp is entirely Basic then in principle it should be ARMv7
ok anyway.

The problem is that earlier versions of DrWimp are not fully
compatible with later versions of RISC OS 5, due to not strictly
following the PRMs for certain SWI (SYS) calls, which ROS 5 has been
tightening up on, and for not handling high memory correctly, eg.
Basic integers are treated as signed, ie. they take +ve and -ve
values with bit 31 being the 'sign', whereas (virtual) high memory on
a 512MB or 1GB machine may give pointers larger than Basics maximum
int value of &7FFFFFFF, appearing to be negative instead. This can
give problems with comparisons. This has given rise to a number of
'bugs' in the DrWimp library which were not noticed before.

Whether these bugs are 'seen' in an app using an old DrWimp library
will depend whether or not the app actually makes use of the
particular bugged FN/PROC from the library, and on how much memory is
fitted to the machine.

I have had Pic_Index happily running on the ARMini this afternoon
with AEs on. I successfully created an Album - process seems a bit
slow, but that could be down to ChangeFSI which may be invoked.

I used ARMv7 versions of the two jpeg utilities, the latest intergif,
and to get Pic_Index to start up it is necessary to comment out the
line in !Run that runs TestAlt. That shouldn't affect normal running.

There are some other utilities that are probably not ARMv7 but they
were not invoked making an album from jpegs.

If anyone would like the various modules I used let me know. A past
user would exercise the app a lot more than I have so far - I had to
RTFM to get anywhere at all :)

As in my other message, I can't run it here. I have a few busy days
